Barranquilla Carnival 'is the largest and most important festival of Barranquilla, the most festive and colorful Colombia, besides being one of the most recognized in the world. Battle of Flowers history The first Battle of Flowers was organized in 1903 by a proposal of General Heriberto Vengoechea after the conclusion of peace, to celebrate the end of the War of the Thousand Days (1899 and 1902). During the 1900 and 1902, the Carnival of Barranquilla was suspended by order of the mayor, as an act of solidarity, and resumed after the war ended.
